Christmas at Newbattle returns! This long established event, held in the stunning surrounds of Newbattle Abbey College is returning! This event sells out quick, so don’t wait about!
The historic building was founded as a Cistercian Monastery in 1140 by King David I, and what is now Newbattle Abbey College became the Kerr family home in the 16th century, before becoming an adult residential college in 1937. The army requisitioned Newbattle during World War 2, and it opened its doors as a college again in 1950. It has retained many of the original features including the vaulted crypt and the breathtaking Drawing Room.
Previous events held here have been exceptionally well supported. There is a strong local community in the areas surrounding Newbattle which sits in the affluent Eskbank area, to the south of Edinburgh. Nearby communities are experiencing rapid growth with large populations of residents who appreciate the opportunity to support local businesses.
We will be using various rooms in the Abbey for this event. The quirky, appealing nature of the building layout will allow us to offer both shallow and deep stalls, available in varying lengths. Depending on the room, stalls will be around the outside, and in the case of the Drawing Room, there will also be central islands.
The following is what you now need to give consideration to:
FRONTAGE: decide how much width you would like, 1.5m minimum, increasing in 0.5m increments.
DEPTH: 1.5m or 0.75m.
POSITION: mid-row or cornersite.
“Open Space Stalls” - this will be the only type of stall available. For various reasons, 3D2D cannot offer its own screen system at Newbattle. Stalls will therefore be of the “open space” variety. If you have screens / display system you can bring and use them here. Nothing may be attached to, or leant against the walls of the Abbey.
1.5m Depth Mid-row Positions - you’ll have neighbours (or a wall) on both sides, and perhaps behind you if you’re on an island position.
1.5m Depth Cornersite Positions - you’ll have a neighbour on only one side, and perhaps behind you if you’re on an island. £35 fee for this option. These are very limited and not guaranteed.
Access - in the case of 1.5m depth stalls, you must book up enough frontage to allow you to get round behind your tables.
Cornersites can be useful for accessing, from the side, the space behind a trestle table when it is placed along the front dimension of your stall. Cornersites arguably mean your stall is much more prominent.
0.75m Depth Mid-row Positions - you’ll have neighbours (or a wall) on both sides, and perhaps behind you if you’re on an island position. There will be no screen system.
0.75m Depth Cornersite Positions - you’ll have a neighbour on only one side, and possibly behind you if you’re on an island. There will be no screen system. £30 fee for this option. These are very limited and not guaranteed.
Access - In the case of 0.75m depth stalls, as there is no room behind your table, you will have to position your chair/stool (i.e. yourself) to the side of it. Allow 0.5m of extra frontage for this purpose: eg: if you want 2m of display space, you’ll need to book 2.5m of frontage in total.
You must book enough space to fit in everything you need. How you arrange your space is up to you. The aisles need to be certain widths to comply with our licensing requirements so it is not acceptable to encroach on them. No part of your display, including yourself, should be outwith your allotted space (this includes browsers, display stands and seating), so when planning your stall please ensure you book enough space to suit your needs.
Don’t forget you are booking a ‘space’ - you should imagine the possibility that your neighbours on either side might well both have their own display systems.
Tables and chairs are free, but must be booked in advance. Please let us know quantities needed by filling in the relevant boxes in the Application Form.
Electricity - Due to the historic nature of this building, most areas have a limited power supply so we do not guarantee access to power. Any electrical items used must have a current PAT test.
Set up, unloading and parking
There is an area at the front of the building for unloading, but once you have unloaded you must move your vehicle to the Exhibitors car park. All parking bays at the front of the building will be used for disabled parking, so please do not park here at any time. On event days, please park in the Exhibitors Car park only.
Exact details for set up and break down will be sent nearer the time, but will be similar to our other Christmas shows.
Cost of Frontage
Your stall fee is based on the rate of 0.5m of frontage and there are two different rates depending on whether you want a 1.5m deep or a 0.75m deep stall. There is an extra charge for corner positions: they do add to your useable frontage and visibility by quite a significant amount.
Costs per 0.5m are:
1.5m Depth - £52 per 0.5m - a corner is £35 extra.
0.75m Depth - £45 per 0.5m - a corner is £30 extra.
Payment
Once you have been allocated a space you will receive confirmation in the form of an invoice(s). There are two payment options, which you choose from when booking: Either one invoice for paying in full, or two invoices with 50% deposit and the remaining 50% to be paid by 22nd August. Please note all prices are inclusive of VAT at 20%. Please note the date for the future payment and ensure payment is made promptly.
When you complete your application form online you will see a note at the end saying you have submitted the application. You will also receive a copy to the email address you provided on the application form.
